While Taro is grown and consumed throughout many parts of the world, the use of Poi is unique and indigenous to the Hawaiian people. Poi, a traditionally fermented, culturally valuable food staple, is composed of small granules that are extremely digestible. Poi is traditionally and currently used for the prevention and cure of many health conditions and has been demonstrated to kill cancer cells in the body. Poi is also an excellent substitute for dairy, soy, grain and gluten products. The benefits of Poi in the alleviation of disease have been demonstrated scientifically, culturally and through many years of historical research.

I occasionally get requests for more information about poi, especially its nutritional benefits. This just reminded me that I have a file of 165 scanned pages of articles, and I'm glad to make it available for download.

In Memorium - The Poi Company, Inc. - 1996 - 2002. We tried to bring "Poi to the World," but despite spending almost $3 million in the process, it just didn't work. Auwe!

The Taro Brand poi bag, old and new. Is it just me, or does the POI part of the new bag look very similar to the POI logo designed for The Poi Company, Inc. by artist John Thomas?

If you're planning a visit to Hawaii, there are many different companies offering nightly luaus for tourists. They range from the cheesy (but fun) to the culturally authentic. All can now be reserved on one website.
