The Hawaii Agricultural Statistics Office has just reported that taro for poi production was only 1.1 million pounds during the 1st quarter of 2005, down 7% from last year.

According to very preliminary research to be published in "Phytotherapy Research," there is some indication that an extract of poi, when placed in a test tube with colon cancer cells from rats, inhibited the cancer cells from dividing. The Perfect Food?
In May 2002 someone posted a question on Google: "What is the perfect food?" Of course, there's no easy answer to this. But there's mention of bee pollen, salads, and (mahalo to "larre-ga") --- poi.
